About Richard Hindman
I’m a fourth generation Indianapolis native and have lived in Indiana my whole life. My wife Sara and I have three sons, David, Matt and John. Sara’s roots are in northern Michigan, and we lovingly maintain part of her family’s heritage in a cottage on Lake Huron as a 2nd home. We don’t have much time to go there now, but keeping family ties are valuable and necessary. Without question, our family is my biggest inspiration and keeps me focused on what is really important in life.
I also think it’s important to do something just for myself every day. Some kind of a little treat, like enjoying a cup of my favorite coffee, or going someplace fun, different or interesting, even if just for a few minutes. It could be almost anything as long as there is a pleasure to take from it. Trying to stay in shape is one of those too. I jog or work on conditioning every day. As I get older, staying flexible becomes more of an issue and you realize too that stress is a major cause of a lot of negative things. Yoga is wonderful for both and surprisingly beneficial for conditioning too.
I have three artistic passions…music, food and creating images. Like a lot of others from my generation I grew up with Rock‘nRoll. I still enjoy that, but love all kinds of music and especially Jazz. I’m a relative newcomer as a musician, so I’m still really only beginning to learn. But playing acoustic guitar is one of my favorite pastimes…and electric guitars are just pure fun.
Another thing I love is cooking, baking and creating things in the kitchen. I always have something going on in there. Some kind of idea strikes my fancy and I’ll whip out the cutting board, bowl or bake-ware. Ask me about my barbecue sauces sometime. I’ve created a whole line of them.
I also enjoy expression by painting a picture with words and images. Writing is something I’ve grown to love…and photography is beyond fun. Seeing and then capturing the perfect shot is exciting to me. This website gives me an opportunity to do both.
Another part of me is analytical and detail oriented too, and I’ve developed a knowledge of technology and the digital world. All of these parts are helpful if involved in the modern real estate business of today. Still, with residential real estate especially, there is another essential ingredient that you need. You must enjoy people. That’s a good fit for me.
My business philosophy is simple. I want to see others be happy. Being a part of the important change in someone’s life when they move to a new home feels like an honor to me. It’s probably the most mentally rewarding experience of anything that I do.
