I gazed at this water feature a long while outside the Eiteljorge Museum but it took looking at a still photo before I actually realized what the creator was going for. When you’re there in front of it real-time, it looks like the water is gurgling and shooting up near the feet of the deer as they stand in the water. But when I saw the same thing in this photo, with action frozen in time, I realized this was a scene with a group of deer as if they were bounding through a shallow stream. The fountains looked just like water splashing up from their hoofs as they ran through the creek.

Wow! What a great picture Richard. I just walked by there the other day on my way to the ISM, but I did not think about what the artist was going for.
I didn’t know what the artist was going for either until it struck me later…looking at the still photo. I really like this piece a lot. Whover chose it or commissioned it to be made deserves some credit. Really in keeping with the wildlife in the natural state that we have in the woods and forests of Indiana. It goes well with the theme of the museum too…native Americans…who lived in balance with nature. I’ve always wondered why they named our state Indiana. Perhaps it’s because that’s where the Indians liked to live?
