Benjamin Harrison’s home on north Delaware Street, adorned with American flag bunting and Old Glory hoisted in front…a picture perfect home to help to remember our American flag today. I didn’t know for sure how it’s calculated, but discovered Flag Day falls on the 14th of June every year. Just happens to be Sunday this year. Apparently the Continental Congress on June 14th, 1777 proposed that there should be a national flag instead of a Union Jack. In 1949, Harry Truman proclaimed the first Flag Day be observed on that date every year. So there you go. I can Google for facts with the best of them!
You have to admit, this house is pretty cool isn’t it. Amazing architecture and detail. I have a photo of just the the front door I will have to post by itself sometime. It’s just beautiful. One thing you can only see part of is the foliage of a tree protruding from the top right into the picture. That tree is a HUGE oak tree…with branches spreading out an enormous distance…and appears to be as old or older than the house. Just the tree itself is worth the trip to see. And, there is a beautiful rose garden around the side of the home that was in full bloom with several varieties.
Ben had a really nice place huh? Kind of makes me want to take one of the tours to see the inside too.
