Looking Up

The Indiana State House – Capitol Building  (200 W. Washington St.) is undoubtedly one of the coolest places in Indianapolis. The architecture and workmanship is fabulous. When you enter, it feels like you cross into another dimension…a world gone by. Interesting that a building could have an effect like that. You can almost feel the presence of all the others over the years who have tread through it’s halls and corridors and occupied the offices and assembly rooms. The place where the peoples work was done, and is still done today.

I’ve always been enchanted by the structure. I still remember seeing for the first time when I was very young, the giant 3-story Christmas tree…beautifully decorated and standing up in the center of the Dome. Of course, my favorite thing there still is to walk to the very center of rotunda and look up at the dome’s stained glass window.

There is something comforting and stabilizing about being in a place that has stood for such a long time and has helped to take care of us all.
