Talking Pictures

A photo I liked of just a small portion of a large building downtown. The entire building’s surface is made up of windows in a continuous repeating design. A big square box with floor after floor of rows of the same 3-window pattern. It’s clean and efficient, but not a whole lot of artistic expression as buildings go. I decided the appeal of this one was the order. A part of me that likes things to be organized and neat when possible. The subconscious choices…the images you like or don’t like…a window on who you are. I get messages sometimes from different people saying they liked a certain photo or another. It’s one of the reasons that photos and images are interesting and powerful to me. They speak differently to each of us.

Getting Ready for the Party

Posted on September 25th, 2011 by Richard. Categories: Community Feature

Have you noticed that a lot of the long-term projects and maintenance items around town we’ve seen in-progress for what seems like forever are either done or nearing completion? Being the host city for the Superbowl this year may have quite a bit to do with it, but so what, we’ll take it. You’ve got to look good at your own party. Only 133 days to go.

It’s just like  inviting a lot of people to your own home. All the things on the to-do list to spruce things up you’ve been putting off for months suddenly become a top priority. Things are starting to look pretty good around town don’t you think?

WNBA Championship 2011

It’s been wonderful watching the Indiana Fever move through the playoffs. Just one more win against Atlanta and they’re in the Finals. It’s starting to feel like it could be their year especially with Tamika Catchings finally winning the league MVP.

One Last Shot

One last shot of some of this summer’s blooms. I have to remind myself to enjoy them now as they soon will begin to whither as we head into Fall. In just a couple days it will be the Autumnal Equinox, when days and nights will be equally balanced…well, for just one day that is, the days then getting shorter and shorter until late December when it swings back the other way. That’s pretty obscure to think about now with wonderful temps, windows open and shorts still the attire when off-duty. Let me think, what should I grill out tonight?

Choosing the Right Home

Posted on September 19th, 2011 by Richard. Categories: For Home Buyers

Even though each home Buyer has very different goals and vision of their next home, there are similarities in the home buying process every time. Moving to a new home is a pivotal event for anyone, and it’s not uncommon for the whole process to take a year, sometimes two or more until the actual move is completed. It takes that long for the ideas, feelings, vision and motivation to evolve and for the right home to cross their path. A home is so much more than just bricks and mortar, it needs to dovetail with all the facets of their lives. The initial vision always changes along the way as the Buyer begins and continues to encounter the market, either looking at properties online, in print media, Open Houses and viewing inside and out with their agent. The vision changes as they get a handle on the market, what is available for sale and what has sold…and largely about value as it relates to location, features, quality, etc. Even more important, they discover things about themselves, what they really like, what they don’t like, what they have-to-have and what they absolutely do not want. Each home they encounter asks questions and something inside themselves gives an answer. Finally the right home crosses their path and begins “talking to them” from the moment they pull up outside. The dialogue continues as they walk the exterior and tour the interior, and afterwards as they reflect on what they have experienced. Sometimes I wonder if a Buyer chooses their new home, or if the home chooses them? For me it’s an interesting process to witness every time, to contribute to and be a part of. The intent is simply for them to be happy.
